Comparison

How to compare driveway cleaning quotes without getting caught out

Two quotes for the same drive can differ by half. Usually it's scope, not greed.

Exterior cleaning is an unregulated trade with a low barrier to entry, which means quotes vary wildly for what looks like the same job. Almost always, the gap is scope: what's included, what's assumed and what's quietly left out.

Nine questions worth asking

  • Is the price fixed, or an estimate that can move on the day?
  • Does it include a biocide treatment, or is it a wash only?
  • Is kiln-dried sand re-sanding included on block paving?
  • What equipment is used on the open surface — rotary or hand lance?
  • Is sealing included, extra, or being pushed as a default?
  • Are you insured, and can you confirm cover for the property?
  • Who deals with the silt and run-off?
  • What happens if I'm not happy with a section?
  • How long is the quote valid for?

Warning signs

  • Pressure to book immediately at a 'today only' price.
  • Cash-only with no written quote or contact address.
  • A price given over the phone with no photos and no site knowledge.
  • A quote that treats sealing as compulsory.
  • No mention of biocide or re-sanding anywhere.

What we do

We quote a fixed price after seeing the surface or clear photos, we're fully insured, and we'll tell you when a job isn't worth doing or when the honest answer is that a stain won't fully come out.
