Yes — lifted and sunken blocks are re-set at the same visit as the clean, as part of the block paving service.

Kiln-dried or polymeric sand?

Kiln-dried sand is the usual choice and is easy to top up. Polymeric sand sets firmer and can resist washout, but it needs dry conditions to lay. We will talk it through at the quote.

Will weeds come back?

Properly filled joints make it much harder for weeds to take hold. Seeds can still land in the top of the joint over time, which is why occasional sweeping and a top-up help.

Can I drive on it straight after?

Walking is fine. Leave driving until the sand has been brushed in and settled — we will tell you when.

Does sealing stop the sand washing out?

A sealer binds the top of the joint sand, which helps it stay put. It is optional and not every drive needs it.

Block paving cleaning is a clean, a repair and a re-sand in one visit: the blocks are rotary-cleaned, weeds and old sand are cleared from the joints, sunken or lifted blocks are re-set, and fresh kiln-dried sand is brushed back in so the paving locks together and weeds struggle to return.

Proper joint re-sanding stops weeds and locks blocks in place for 2–3 years before top-up. Repair work on sunken or lifted blocks is done at the same visit.

A standard two-car block-paved drive takes about a day including re-sanding and any minor repairs.

Why the joints matter as much as the blocks

The sand between the blocks is what holds a block-paved drive together. When it washes out, blocks start to rock, edges creep and weeds find easy rooting space. That is why cleaning without re-sanding often leaves a drive looking good for a few weeks and then worse than before.

Kiln-dried sand is the standard choice because it is fine and dry enough to fall to the bottom of narrow joints. Polymeric sand, which hardens once wetted, is available on request and suits some drives better than others — our jointing sand comparison sets out the differences.

Colour, fading and sealing

Clay-red, buff, brindle and charcoal blocks all fade with sunlight and wear. Cleaning brings back much of the original colour by removing the grime layer; a colour-enhancing sealer can deepen it further. Sealing is a separate decision, best made once you have seen the cleaned drive.
