Most people have never watched an exterior clean start to finish, so the day feels vague when you book it. It shouldn't. Here's the actual running order.
Before we arrive
- Move cars off the drive and clear pots, furniture and toys where you can.
- Close windows and doors on the side we're working — rotary cleaners throw a fine mist.
- Let us know about outside sockets, taps, loose pointing, weak drainage or anything already damaged.
On site
- Walk-round: we look at material, condition, drainage and anything fragile, and confirm the plan with you.
- Protection: airbricks, planting, decorative gravel and door thresholds get covered or wetted down as needed.
- Treatment: a biocide goes on first where growth is heavy, and is left to dwell — this is the step that stops regrowth.
- Cleaning: the open surface is done with a rotary flat-surface cleaner for an even finish; edges, steps and awkward returns are lanced by hand.
- Rinse and clear: silt is flushed away from the surface and drains, not just pushed to the edge.
- Re-sanding: on block paving, joints are refilled once the surface has dried enough to take the sand.
- Final walk-round: we go over it with you before we leave.
Why the order matters
Biocide first, pressure second. If you blast a surface before treating it, you remove the visible growth but leave the roots — and the drive greens up again in a matter of months.
Sand last, and only when dry. Kiln-dried sand poured into a wet joint clogs at the top and leaves a void underneath.
