Commercial forecourts: cleaning around trading hours

For a business, the paving is part of the shopfront — and part of the risk register.

Commercial exterior cleaning is a different job to domestic work, not because the machines change but because the constraints do: you're working around opening hours, deliveries, staff parking, pedestrians and drainage consent.

Scheduling

  • Most retail forecourts are cleaned before opening or overnight in a single visit.
  • Delivery yards are usually done around a known quiet slot in the week.
  • Larger sites can be split into zones across visits so nothing closes.
  • Recurring visits get booked as a cycle rather than reactively.

What commercial work typically involves

  • Rotary flat-surface cleaning across the open paving for an even finish.
  • Chewing gum removal at entrances and around seating.
  • Degreasing where kitchen extraction, bins or vehicles have caused grease and oil drift.
  • Moss clearance on shaded walkways and staff routes.
  • Careful handling of silt and run-off away from surface drainage.

The safety argument

Algae on a shaded walkway is a slip hazard, and a documented cleaning cycle is evidence that the surface is being managed. For schools, care settings and hospitality in particular, that's usually the reason the work gets signed off rather than deferred.
